Kingsbrook Presents Stroke Screening Week

Kingsbrook will offer free stroke screenings and education from July 24-28th, 11:00am- 2:00pm in the Vascular Laboratory, Katz building 4th floor on the medical center’s main campus at 585 Schenectady Avenue between Winthrop Street & Rutland Road. Kingsbrook’s free screening program provides access to detection opportunities for the under and uninsured of the community. The screening program is part of the facility’s prevention agenda to improve access to quality care and early detection efforts and is offered via Kingsbrook’s Best Health School.

Kingsbrook recently received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award with Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll Elite Plus. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to providing the most appropriate stroke treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

Hospitals must achieve 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines-Stroke achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month periods and achieve 75 percent or higher compliance with five of eight Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality measures to receive the Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award.

Additionally, Kingsbrook specializes in stroke rehabilitation and has a designated Stroke Center implemented in its Emergency Department. The center is fully equipped with tele-stroke capabilities, a 2-way, video conferencing system with stroke/neurology specialists.

“It is important to understand your risk for stroke,” says Enid Dillard, Director of Marketing & Public Affairs at Kingsbrook. “Making sure there is ease of access to early detection options is key to our chronic disease prevention focus.” For more information on our monthly screening schedule for 2017, visit our website at under Community Programs & Events or call 718-604-5062.
