Cancer Rehab information Day January 29th


On Monday, January 29th, Kingsbrook's Cancer Rehab team will have an information day to answer questions and introduce guests to our disinguished program. Specialists will be available in the Briger Lobby at 585 Schenectady Avenue betweem Winthrop Street & Rutland Road from 10:00-10:30 am.

The Cancer Rehabilitation Program at Kingsbrook Rehabilitation Institute offers a holistic interdisciplinary team approach to treat the impairments, activity limitations and participation restrictions of persons diagnosed with cancer.The goal of the program is to provide the person served with individualized treatments that will optimize and maximize function and deliver care in a sensitive and compassionate manner by competent clinicians who advocate for their needs.

The Kingsbrook Cancer Rehab team recognizes that cancer affects both the person served and their families and our treatments are guided by their preferences and personal goals. The person served is provided with resources that emphasize wellness and an active lifestyle. Our skilled clinicians communicate and collaborate with other healthcare providers involved in the care of the person served.

The program offers a variety of services in both inpatient and outpatient settings that provide interventions in preventive, restorative, supportive and palliative rehabilitation that optimize function, promote healthy lifestyles, provide psychological and coping skills, emphasize participation in life roles and educate the person served and their families.

The effects of cancer and its treatment on the person served may include fatigue, swelling of limbs (lymphedema), balance dysfunction, sensory loss, nerve pain (neuropathy), swallowing dysfunction, weakness, memory loss, depression and anxiety.

To optimize function, our program offers the following services to address these impairments in our inpatient rehabilitation unit or in our outpatient rehabilitation clinic.
