The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine offers a fully accredited residency training program. The program is staffed by a director, residency training director, administrator and faculty. We offer comprehensive education in Pain Management and procedures, Pediatric Rehabilitation and Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation as well as a thorough grounding in the basics of physical medicine and rehabilitation. Residents rotate through the inpatient rehabilitation units which are part of the Kingsbrook Rehabilitation Institute, the largest in Brooklyn. They also run the Traumatic Brain Injury Unit, the only accredited unit in Brooklyn. Residents rotate through several outside hospitals – including Pain and Palliative Care at Metropolitan Hospital, Sports Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital, Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Coler-Goldwater and Neurology at Long Island College Hospital.
A research project is mandatory; in 2008 residents presented at Residents Night at the NY Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and some have also presented papers at national and international conferences.
Prospective residency candidates must:
- apply through ERAS.
- have minimum board scores of 200 on USMLE or 600 on COMLEX.
