KINGSBROOK OFERS FREE BMI/OBESITY SCREENINGS ON NOV. 7TH
On Thursday, Nov. 7th from 11:00-2:00pm, Kingsbrook will be providing free
screenings and education about BMI and Obesity. The screening event will
take place in the Briger Lobby easily accessed on Winthrop Street between
Schenectady Avenue and 49th Street. No appointment is needed.
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measurement of a person’s weight with
respect to his or her height. It is more of an indicator than a direct
measurement of a person’s total body fat. Overweight is a BMI of
27.3 or more for women and 27.8 or more for men. Obesity is a BMI of 30
or more for either sex (about 30 pounds overweight).
In central Brooklyn, obesity is higher than in the Brooklyn overall, with
the instances for diabetes, heart disease and stroke being higher in this
region as well. Kingsbrook’s BMI screening helps educate participants
about where they falling within these metrics and how these related conditions.
