Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center’sBest Health School is gearing up for the Spring months with education and screenings events
that speak to advancing the health and wellness of the community. On May
11th from 11:00-2:00pm, Kingsbrook will be providing free screenings and
education about BMI and Obesity. The screening event will take place in
the Briger lobby easily accessed on Winthrop Street between Schenectady
Avenue and 49th Street. No appointment is needed.
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measurement of a person’s weight with
respect to his or her height. It is more of an indicator than a direct
measurement of a person’s total body fat. Overweight is a BMI of
27.3 or more for women and 27.8 or more for men. Obesity is a BMI of 30
or more for either sex (about 30 pounds overweight).
In central Brooklyn, obesity is higher than in the Brooklyn overall, with
the instances for diabetes, heart disease and stroke being higher in this
region as well.
With this is mind,
the Best Health School provides early detection and education for the community year-round, providing
CPR training and wellness education such as diabetes prevention, heart
care, stroke care, pain management and medication management to name a
few. For more information on our monthly screening schedule for 2018,
