KINGSBROOK HOSTS STROKE SCREENING WEEK OCTOBER 15-19
In effort to combat the pervasive instance of stroke in central Brooklyn,
Kingsbrook will host a free stroke screening week from October 15-19th,
11:00am- 2:00pm, in the Vascular Laboratory, Katz building 4th floor. The screening program is part of the facility’s prevention
agenda to improve access to quality care and early detection efforts and
is offered via Kingsbrook’s
Best Health School. This program provides education and screenings year-round and is designed
to increase access to early detection opportunities for the under and
uninsured of the community.
Brooklyn has the highest rates of coronary heart disease, congestive heart
disease, hypertensive disease, and stroke hospitalizations compared to
the state and the rest of the city. According to the National Stroke Association,
African Americans have higher stroke risks and stroke occurrence at an
earlier age. Kingsbrook encourages all community residents to take advantage
of the free screening program.
