Whether conducting outpatient services or performing delicate eye surgery, protecting the eyes and vision of the general population is the department’s objective. The Department of Ophthalmology is particularly sensitive to the role vision plays in maintaining quality of life and independence in the elderly.

Kingsbrook’s renowned ophthalmologists also excel in the highly specialized field of neuro-ophthalmology. Many neurological diseases can be diagnosed on the basis of symptoms that ophthalmologists can see in the eye. Neuroophthalmologic examinations are used for the diagnosis and treatment of medical and neurologic problems such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiac disease, blood disorders, multiple sclerosis, strokes and brain tumors. The Department of Ophthalmology is a training site for Post Graduate Fellows.
