Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center located at 585 Schenectady Avenue, between Rutland Road and Winthrop Street in Brooklyn, continues to address pertinent health and wellness issues affecting the communities of Central Brooklyn, through its free monthly public education lecture series “Taking Control of Your Health 2007”. In this regard, the topic “A Healthy Heart-A Healthy You: Updates in Cardiac Care” will be the focus of the Thursday, February 22nd lecture at the medical center’s main campus.
The one-hour informative and interactive session, which starts at 6:30 p.m. will be held in the Conference Room, on the 4th Floor of Kingsbrook’s Briger building. A light dinner is provided. Dr. Manfred Moskovits, Cardiologist and Director of the Cardiology Suite will host the evening. He will address critical issues and offer guidelines to understanding and maintaining good heart health.
“Recent health reports clearly indicate that cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of illness among men and women in the United States, and accounts for almost 40% of all deaths annually”, states Dr. Moskovits. He adds, “Recently released health statistics show that more than 70 million Americans currently live with a cardiovascular disease.” He further states, “Heart disease is one of the most common cardiovascular diseases, and its impact out numbers other diseases such as breast cancer and lung cancer combined, and this trend is worsening rather than improving. Other statistics reveal that the prevalence of the disease also has an economic impact, as coronary heart disease is a leading cause of premature and permanent disability in the US workforce.”
Dr. Moskovits goes on to say, “Today, while there are numerous advanced therapies and treatment options to address this health issue; education and early detection remain crucial if we, as medical practitioners are to be successful in curtailing cardiovascular disease in our communities. We at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center are making ongoing improvements and every effort to address this health issue in our local community.”
