Kingsbrook offers free health screenings for Asthma.

Brooklyn, New York

During the month of May, Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center located at 585 Schenectady Avenue in Brooklyn, between Rutland Road and Winthrop Street, will offer free health screenings for Asthma to all members of the public.  The screenings, which will be conducted at Kingsbrook’s network of family healthcare centers located throughout Brooklyn, are made possible through Kingsbrook’s partnership with The Foundation for Medical Evaluation and Early Detection.

Reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirm that in the United States, there are millions of persons who suffer from environment-related allergies that lead to respiratory illnesses, most often, Asthma.  Further research shows that Asthma is the most predominant or common long-term respiratory disorder that affects both children and adults in our community.  In this regard, the high incidences of Asthma in our local communities of Central Brooklyn only serve to confirm the agency’s findings.  The foregoing is of great concern to medical practitioners, as an intense episode of Asthma can be life threatening to an individual.

“Kingsbrook remains steadfastly committed to ensuring the health and wellness of all the individuals and families it serves.  In light of this, every month we are offering a different complimentary health screening that addresses a prevalent medical disorder that is impacting our community residents”, states Ms. Deborah Mabry, Assistant Vice President of Ambulatory Care Services at Kingsbrook.

She adds, “We have worked diligently to cement a partnership that enables us to offer every member of our local community with an opportunity to receive an important health screening, as we strive to reduce the incidences of illness, in this instance, Asthma, among our residents.  Moreover, these free screenings are being offered through our network of family health centers to ensure that all members of our community have access to a complimentary screening either locally or at a site that is conveniently located.   It is our hope that individuals will avail themselves of this opportunity to get screened, become aware of their health status and, if necessary, get the medical help that they need.”

Following is the schedule for May’s free Asthma health screening initiative.
