Kingsbrook Offers Free Diabetes & Hypertension Screenings

July 2011, Brooklyn, NY-- In New York City diabetes has reached epidemic proportions, with over 700,000 residents battling this condition. Within our primary services areas (Central Brooklyn, East New York and Flatbush) close to 38% of our community members live with diabetes and are more susceptible to related complications such as: heart disease, stroke, kidney and vascular disease.

In effort to reverse this persistent trend, Kingsbrook will offer free diabetic & hypertension screenings from July 25-29th on the main campus of Kingsbrook at 585 Schenectady Avenue, (Outpatient entrance) in Clinic, and at Pierre Toussaint Family Health Center located at 1110 Eastern Parkway at the corner of Utica Avenue. Diabetes screenings are conducted from 8:00-11:00am and hypertension screenings from 10:00-3:00pm at both locations.

"We encourage our community members to take full advantage of early detection options, especially in the current economic climate where residents are experiencing an increased need for free services," states Enid Dillard, Director of Marketing & Public Affairs at Kingsbrook. "We want our community to know that diabetes & hypertension are largely preventable, as well as controllable via the proper education, early detection methods and proper medical care. Both conditions contribute greatly to a myriad of chronic illnesses and it's important for people to understand their risk factors."

For more information on this screening event and others scheduled for 2011, please call us at 718-604-5062 or visit our website at www.kingsbrook.org under Community Programs & Events.
