KINGSBROOK RECEIVES "A" RATING FROM THE LEAPFROG GROUP

KINGSBROOK RECEIVES LEVEL PCMH LEVEL 3 STATUS

The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), the renowned healthcare quality improvement organization, has recognized Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center's Outpatient Specialty Center and off-site Outpatient Facility, Pierre Toussaint , as level-3 Patient Centered Medical Homes (PCMH); NCQA's highest designation in the PCMH Reognition Program. PCMH recognition affirms that a primary care practice provides an exceptionally high level of quality, team-based, patient-focused care.

KINGSBROOK RECEIVES STROKE AWARD

Kingsbrook received the Get With the Guidelines-Stroke Silver Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association. The award recognizes Kingsbrook's commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted guidelines. Get With the Guidelines-Stroke helps Kingsbrook's staff develop and implement acute and secondary prevention guideline processes to improve patient care outcomes. The program provides hospitals with a web-based patient management tool, best practice discharge protocols and standing orders, along with a robust registry and real-time benchmarking capabilities to track performance. The quick and efficient use of guidline procedures can improve the quality of care for stroke patients and may reduce disability and save lives.

Kingsbrook received the Stroke Care Excellence Award from Healthgrades, recognizing hospitals for superior outcomes in the care and treatment of stroke.

Kingsbrook received the Patient Safety Award from Healthgrades, recognizing hospitals in the top 10% of the nation for patient safety for preventing infections, medical errors and other complications based on standard patent dafety indicators.

Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center is now recognized to be among the highest performing hospitals in the United States by The Joint Commission's Top Performers on Key Quality Measures ™, a program that recognizes accredited hospitals from across the country that attain excellence in performance. The Joint Commission is the most recognized independent accreditation agency in the nation, assuring that quality and safety standards are met in over 19,000 healthcare organizations and programs. Kingsbrook joins just three other hospitals in the metro New York City area to receive this very prestigious recognition. More specifically, Kingsbrook attained top performer ranking in accountability measure performance in the areas of heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.

The Leapfrog Group aims to educate and to encourage consumers to consider safety when selecting a hospital for themselves or their families. Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center's primary care program received recognition from the NCQA Diabetes Recognition Program (DRP). Facilities who achieve DRP Recognition show their peers, patients and others in the community that they are part of an elite group that is publicly recognized for its skill in providing the highest-level diabetes care. Kingsbrook's region of Central Brooklyn is known as an epi-center for diabetes, one of the highest in New York State.

NCQA developed the Diabetes Recognition Program (DRP) to provide clinicians with tools to support the delivery and recognition of consistent high quality care. This voluntary program is designed to recognize physicians and other clinicians, who use evidence-based measures and provide excellent care to their patients with diabetes.

The DRP Program has 10 measures which cover areas such as:

  • HbA1c control
  • Blood Pressure control
  • LDL control
  • Eye examinations
  • Nephropathy Assessment
  • Smoking status and cessation advice or treatment

Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center has received the IPRO Award for its organization-wide, exemplary commitment to quality improvement in surgical care. This impressive award recognizes Kingsbrook's outstanding commitment to quality practices and patient satisfaction. Each year IPRO recognizes outstanding performance by health care providers and stakeholders throughout New York State with its Quality Awards Program. This year's honorees included hospitals, nursing homes, an ambulatory care facility and patient support organizations. IPRO is a national organization providing a full spectrum of healthcare assessment and improvement services that foster more efficient use of resources and enhance healthcare quality to achieve better patient outcomes. Founded in 1984, IPRO is highly regarded for the independence of its approach, the depth of its knowledge and experience, and the integrity of its programs.

Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center is listed on "My Health Finder" Honor Roll for post-operative DVT and PE, and accidental puncture and laceration. Kingsbrook is one of 20 hospitals in the State of New York to receive "Top Hospital Recognition" and the only hospital in Brooklyn to be on this list.

Hospitals were evaluated based on mortality rates, patient safety indicators, two types of adverse events and participation in national safety programs. The analysis focused on areas where hospitals performed better than average. The top 15 percent of hospitals were selected for the Honor Roll.
