Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, located in the East Flatbush section of Central Brooklyn, was founded in 1925 as a chronic care facility to serve the then Jewish Community within a cultural context. As the community has evolved and diversified, Kingsbrook has expanded its services and programs, to meet the needs of the large culturally diverse communities that it now serves.
Kingsbrook is an 864-bed medical training institution, comprised of a 326-bed acute care hospital and a 538-bed adult and pediatric skilled nursing long-term care facility. In addition to its celebrated Kingsbrook Rehabilitation Institute, Kingsbrook's Centers of Excellence include: Brooklyn’s only New York State approved Traumatic Brain Injury & Coma Recovery Unit, Ophthalmology & Neuro-Ophthalmology, a Geriatric inpatient Psychiatry service, a premiere program serving the mentally challenged elderly throughout the borough, and an outpatient Caribbean Community Mental Health Program, a culturally sensitive program established to meet the unique needs of Caribbean immigrants residing in New York City.
Additional services include: a Wound Healing Center; offering hyperbaric oxygen as one of the treatment modalities for diabetics and other hard-to-heal wounds, Orthopedic Surgery, a Women’s Wellness Center; featuring Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery and state-of-the-art Digital Mammography, a Certified Non-Invasive Vascular Laboratory; for the early detection and treatment of vascular disorders and limb salvage for persons with diabetes. Other specialty areas include: Emergency Services, Ambulatory Surgery, as well as a 538-bed adult and pediatric long term care facility. Kingsbrook and Rutland Nursing Home are JCAHO certified and not-for-profit members of the Greater New York Hospital Association and the Healthcare Association of New York State. Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center is accredited by the New York State Department of Health, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO), the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The long-term care facility, Rutland Nursing Home, is accredited by the New York State Department of Health. The Medical Center is a voluntary not-for-profit institution and member of the Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA) and the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS). |
